Joseph Matthews
Born in 1895, Matthews joined the Communist Party in 1920. In the post second war era, he was an activist in the Worthing branch in the Sussex district of the Party.
A Co-operative Insurance agent, he was a member of USDAW, and the Chair of the Worthing Trades Council, from which he was delegated to be a member of the Sussex Agricultural Wages Committee.
