Gay Margaret

Margaret Gay

Gay was a teacher and leading Communist Party member in Coventry during the war years, after her arrival there in the summer of 1941.

She was involved in campaigns to improve production and getting women to undertake war work, touring streets in vans provided by the Ministry of Information, which were fitted with loudspeakers.

Gaye worked closely with Joe Steele, a Communist Party member and shop steward at the Armstrong Whitworth works at Baginton.

Margaret Gay was also the leader of the Coventry Women’s Anglo-Soviet Committee.
