Cyril Smith

Smith had moved to Hayes, in West Middlesex, in 1957, and worked as a wood machinist for London Transport.

 He joined the Communist Party in 1960, standing as a Communist candidate for the London Borough of Hillingdon in 1978.
 
Amongst his local activities, Smith ran cycling proficiency tests for children of the borough.
