Hugh Styler
A trade union activist from the age of 15, Styler was a leader and organiser of the 1926 strike committee in Maryport, Cumbria.
He was an activist and lifelong member of ASLEF, the locomotive drivers’ union from the age of 17.
A founder member of the Carlisle branch of the Communist Party in 1935, he was, in all, a member of the Communist Party for 57 years and the Carlisle Trades Council for 52 years.
