Doug Stone
Born May 17th 1917 in Ripley, Derbyshire and educated at Swanwick Hall grammar, Stone joined the Communist Party in the mid-1930s.
He was a research chemist at the Denby Pottery Company from the early 1940s. A designer of glazes and colours for high quality Denbyware, he became Technical Director from the 1970s until his retirement in 1982 but was able to retain his views, despite such promotion.
He died, aged 85, on December 19th 2002.
