Barbara Haq

Barbara McKay was born on March 8th 1918. She was a member of the Communist Party from the 1930s and married a Pakistani student by the name of Haq, who was studying at the LSE, in 1942.

After the birth of three children, they went to live in Pakistan for some years, returning in 1956.

In the late 1950s, she worked for the Movement for Colonial Freedom (MCF) and became its General Secretary.

A Communist all her life, she died aged 79 on March 2nd 1998.
